   以水调和水彩颜料绘成的画。该颜料以胶水调制,透明,分干块状、锡管装两类。画纸质地结实,吸水性适中。笔为狼毫或羊毫所制,分扁、圆两类,型号大小有别。其他工具有调色盒(碟)、画板(夹)、笔洗 、铅笔等。画法有干画法、湿画法、浸接法、点彩法、渲染法等。水彩画借助于水表现透明度和色调浓淡,能体现出轻盈、润泽、明丽、淋漓等独特效果。水彩画约产生于15世纪末的欧洲,18世纪在英国发展成为独立画种。英国水彩画家有J.M.W.泰纳、J.康斯特布尔。水彩画约于19世纪末20世纪初传入中国,颇受中国画家的欢迎,现在已成为最普及的画种之一。
