翁甲寺是利用翁甲神山半山腰的一个溶洞修建而成,周围奇峰耸立,溶洞星罗棋布,主经堂坐落在溶洞中,高21米,宽29米,深36米,面积为1044平方米,古刹与溶洞浑然天成,这在寺庙建筑中很少见。洞内有钟乳石天然形成形态各异的飞禽走兽、佛像、桌、凳,洞中鸽燕窝密布,洞底有一小溪,清澈透明。石壁上那数百个天然形成的藏文“翁”字,正是翁甲寺的由来。 寺庙周围树木茂密,鲜花竞开,每逢春季,桃花盛开,杜鹃怒放,苍松翠柏争相辉映,各种飞禽走兽给这片土地带来了勃勃生机。 翁甲神山及翁甲寺都不收门票,如果在寺内喝酥油茶吃糌粑,可捐10-20元以示谢意。
