Through an emotional crisis between the male and female protagonists,the novel Between My Wife And I shows a new round of group antagonism between the "countryman" and "townsfolk" in the revolutionary culture context in those early days after the founding of People s Republic of China,finishing its narration in the meta-story template of "countryman migrating into cities".

Therefore, large quantities of experts carry out research on him who is regarded as "a countryman", while, in this thesis, I will refute this kind of idea and try to make a panoramic analysis of his literary activities, viewing him as "an intellectual from the countryside".

Being a "villager" with multicultural position, Shen Congwen constructed lots of narrative subjectivity in his novels.

This paper aims to provide some insights into the delicate psychological state and complicated connotation of Shen Congwen s self-styled term “country folk” by combining his progress of advancing into the city.
