作家，学者。浙江杭州人。震旦大学肄业。曾主编《现代》杂志。1937年后长期从事教育工作。建国后任华东师范大学教授。早年所作小说受弗洛伊德影响，注重挖掘人物的潜意识，有小说集《上元灯》、《将军底头》等。在文学翻译、古典文学研究方面亦有成绩。有《施蛰存文集》。
