The variant characters of Wu Jing Wen Zi are classified into two categories according to their properties:The Changed Variant Characters are defined by comparing the characters from Shuo Wen Jie Zi with the those from the stone classics,the classical books,Zi lin and ancient scripts;the other kind is called Er Tong Variant Characters due to the "Er Tong" labeled below the variant characters group.
《五经文字》的重文根据性质不同分为两类:一类是对比给出《说文》小篆用字与石经、经典相承、《字林》或《说文》古籀用字,我们称为变异重文;另一类是于重文字组下标注“二同”字样,我们称为“二同”重文。
