景区位于巴中地区通江县境内大巴山南麓与陕西省交界处，距县城70公里，面积270平方公里。景区内秀水中流，奇峰突兀，怪石横生，溶洞遍布，以山青、水秀、洞奇、石美和谐统一为主要特色。景区可观景点达300余处，有溶洞128个，不同风采的险滩、碧潭300余处，各类瀑布、暗流、喷泉、水帘100余处，尤以“莲花潭”、“老龙泉”、“风泉”、“鱼泉”、“变色泉”最为奇特。奇峰峭壁、丽峡幽谷、险道雄关约75处。这里溶岩地貌千姿百态，“石人”、“石马”、“石狮”、“石猴”等应有尽有，其中“鼓掌石”、“麻坝石林”更为壮观。
