The dissemination and influence of impressionist paintings in China can be divided into 2 stages: The 1st stage was from the beginning of the 20th century to the year 1949,Liu Haisu and others played the major roles;the 2nd stage is from the establishment of New China up till now,impressionism was first denied,but afterwards it has obtained welcome that it should have in China.

Naturalist literature and impressionist painting both became prosperous in France during the later 19th century.
