为鳖科动物鼋的甲壳。
【动物形态】
鼋，又名：绿团鱼、癞头鼋。 为鳖类中之大型者，体长一般为26～72厘米。吻端很短；背甲近圆形，散生小疣，暗绿色；腹面及前肢外缘和蹼，均呈白色。 常栖于缓流的深河中，分布云南、广东、广西、福建、浙江、江苏等地。 本动物的肉(鼋肉)、胆(鼋胆)、脂肪(鼋膏)亦供药用，各详专条。
【性味】
《纲目》："甘，平，无毒。"
【功用主治】
①《本革拾遗》："功用同鳖甲，炙，浸酒，主瘰疬，杀虫，逐风，恶疮，痔瘿，风顽疥瘙。" ②《日华于本草》："五脏邪气，杀百虫毒、百药毒。续筋骨。" ③《本草图经》："主妇人血热。"
