死的本能(death instin。t)与生的本能和力比多的生的本能相对的毁灭性质的冲动。弗洛伊德于!920年采用这个术语来解释精神分析治疗中的某些现象，因它不能用他的性本能理论来解释。例如，他观察到病人除了憎恨、毁灭和其他的攻击性冲动外，也特别不愿意接受修正的解释。是否存在着死的本能?人们对此颇有争议。克莱因学派认为，在幼童的分析中有临床证据提示人有死的本能。精神分析理论的反对者则普遍批判死的本能的提法。 (梁宝勇撰徐俊见审)
