中国唯一的专业出版盲文图书、期刊的出版社。1978年成立于北京,当时称北京盲文出版社,1984年改为中国盲文出版社。前身是中国盲人福利会领导的盲文印刷所，从1954年起开始出版少量盲文书籍。80年代，出版业务有很大发展, 每年出书约 120种，发行20多万册。政治、法律、哲学、 语言文字、 文学艺术、历史地理、外语、医药卫生、 科学技术、 综合类等各门类图书均有出版。还有《知识与生活》、 《文艺选刊》、 《卫生知识》、《科学知识》四种月刊。该社已出版的党和国家领导人著作《毛泽东选集》、《周恩来选集》、《邓小平文选》，古典文学名著《 三国演义 》、《红楼梦》、《水浒》、《唐诗》、《唐宋词选》，以及按摩、推拿等医药卫生方面的图书，都受到盲人的欢迎。此外，还试制出版录音书刊，已有两种盲人读物磁带出版。
