Poetic rhythms of New Metrical Poetry are the regular arrangement of time units of the same sound intervals,which comprise several levels: the most basic rhythmical unit is sound caesura and semantic caesura.
新诗格律节奏构成的最基本节奏单元是音顿和意顿;向外发展形成两种建行方式——音顿连续排列建行和意顿对称排列建行;再向外发展就形成构节构篇的形式化节奏体系和口语化节奏体系,其基本构形原则是"句的均齐和节的匀称",由此形成新格律诗体丰富的具体格式。

新月社是1923年由胡适、徐志摩、闻一多、梁实秋、陈源等人创建的文学团体，1926年起徐志摩在《晨报副刊》上创办了《诗镌》、《剧刊》，1927年新月书店在上海成立，1928年3月由徐志摩、罗隆基、胡适、梁实秋等创立了《新月》月刊。
新月社的成立，造就了一批注重现代格律待的新月派诗人，对中国的新文化运动产生了重要的影响。新月派在提倡现代诗歌格律化的同时，强调对诗歌语言词汇的运用，在诗歌创作中体现文学美的意境，因此新月派也称为新格律诗派。
1931年11月徐志摩飞机失事遇难，不久《新月》杂志停刊，新月社解散。
