希腊神话中阿卡迪亚的牧神，赫尔墨斯（或宙斯）之子。他长着山羊的犄角、蹄子、尾巴和胡子，被尊为牧人和猎手的庇护者。他经常出没山林,与神女舞蹈,吹奏排箫。他有时离群索居，谁破坏他的安宁，他就使谁感到丧魂落魄的恐惧。他追求神女叙林克斯，神女躲到河里变成芦苇，他便用芦苇制成排箫。后来他成了狄奥尼索斯的随从。传说他帮助雅典人在马拉松等战役中获胜，因此得到雅典卫城的一个山洞。为纪念他，雅典每年举行火炬游行。
