该级舰建于80年代，满载排水量7900吨，船速32节,装备有反舰、防空导弹、鱼雷、火炮和激光致盲防空武器。该级舰主要用于反舰、防空、反潜。
前苏海军大型导弹驱逐舰，首制舰１９７６年开工建造，１９７８年下水，１９８１年服役，本级舰共６艘。
“现代”级导弹驱逐舰彻的长度为155.6米，宽度为17.4米，吃水7米，标准排水量7070吨，满载排水量7500吨，最大航速32节。按14节计算，续航力7000海里。“现代”级导弹驱逐舰由总功率73500千瓦的两座蒸汽轮机和4台锅炉构成动力装置。
“现代”级导弹驱逐舰的火力配置：两座sa-n-7舰对空导弹发射架，两座四联装ss-n-22舰对舰导弹发射装置，两个双联装553毫米鱼雷发射管，两座6管rbu1000反潜火箭发射装置，两座ak130双联装130毫米舰炮，4座ak630六管30毫米近防炮。舰上有机库，备有卡-25b型或卡-27b型反潜直升机各一架。
