巴西电影导演。生于阿根廷布宜诺斯艾利斯。1969年开始导演影片，处女作为短纪录片《圣保罗艺术博物馆》。先后做过S.科布希、 G.费罗尼、 M.加姆斯等人的导演助理。1975年独立执导了第一部长片《北方王》，反应一般。1977年创作的《卢休·宫拉维欧》轰动影坛，1980年执导的《比绍特》（又名《弱肉强食》）引起国际影坛的注目。该片在法国比亚里茨电影节、西班牙圣塞瓦斯蒂安国际电影节上获得 3项大奖，在洛杉矶影展上获得好评并获得奥斯卡最佳外国语片奖提名。1985年创作的《蜘蛛女之吻》获 4项奥斯卡提名，最后获最佳男演员奖。
