魏晋南北朝瓦当 魏晋圆瓦当以云纹为主。西晋云纹瓦当的特点是在云纹以外有一圈锯齿纹。文字瓦当大为减少。从十六国到北朝，瓦当的云纹趋于简化，当面画成9个格，文字的读法顺序为上下左右或上下右左，和汉代旋读法不同。十六国的瓦当有“大赵万岁”、“长山常贵”等，北魏的以“万岁富贵”为多。书体介于楷隶之间。在吉林高句丽遗址中，也发现不少属于北朝时期的瓦当，其图案为变形云纹或忍冬纹。有的瓦当边缘上，有模印的小字一圈，长达20余字，文中除纪年、月、日外，还有“保子宜孙”之类的话，南北朝时因受佛教的影响，瓦当花纹中出现忍冬纹和莲花纹，并出现兽面瓦当。
