Empathy and detachment are two different or even opposite aesthetic approaches in aesthetic theories.

This paper studies definition of extraposition in Chinese,analyzes features of extraposition from grammatical,rhetoric and functional perspectives,classifies extraposition in terms of relationship between extraposed constituent and an original item,and grammatical function of an original item in the sentence,probes into application of extraposition in Chinese in translating English into Chinese.

This paper is designed to provide a brief introduction to the characteristics of separate construction and its application in Chinese-English translation as well.
