三一教,又名夏教,以“道释归儒,儒归孔子”为教旨倡三教合一而名“三一教”,林兆恩“三教合一”的宗教思想深受阳明心学影响,在心学的理论前提之下,其“三教合一”的宗教思想主要包括:道一教三说,三教一致说,非非三教说,三教合一说以及归儒宗孔说等四个方面内容。

﹝出华严经疏﹞
南中三教者，谓自齐朝已后，江南诸师，立此三教，判如来一代所说之法也。
［一、渐教］，谓佛说法，始自鹿苑，终至双树，从小至大，是名渐教。
［二、顿教］，谓佛最初为诸菩萨说华严经，如日初出，先照高山，是名顿教。
［三、不定教］，谓别有经，虽非顿、渐所摄，而明佛性常住，即胜鬘经及金光明经等，是名不定教。
