中国研究日本史的群众性学术团体。1980年成立,会址设在天津社会科学院，现有会员 300余人。领导机构为会员代表大会选举产生的理事会,现任第3届理事会产生于1987年。理事会聘请吴廷璆、周一良、邹有恒、吴杰为名誉会长。会长为中国社会科学院世界历史所研究员万峰,另有副会长、秘书长、理事若干人。下设5个分会。学会在马克思主义指导下，开展日本史研究。具体任务是组织国内日本史研究机构和专业人员；进行学术交流；推动史料编译和专题研究工作，并开展国际学术交流。
学会成立8年来先后召开了3届年会和10余次专题讨论会，讨论的主要问题有邪马台国的地理位置与社会性质、日本封建社会的特点、明治维新的性质、日本资本主义的产生与发展、日本侵华战争、战后改革等。学会出版物有《日本史研究》（已出 1期）和《中国日本史学会通讯》（已出5期）。编辑了《日本史论文集》2辑(1982、1986)。
