网膜是指连于胃的腹膜结构，大网膜是其中一部分。它呈裙状遮蔽在小肠、结肠等腹腔脏器前方，上缘附着于胃大弯，覆盖胃前、后壁的腹膜自胃大弯和十二指肠起始部下延，形成大网膜的前二层，约至脐以下平面即折向上成为后二层，上达横结肠，包绕横结肠后与横结肠系膜相续连。成人大网膜的这四层腹膜常已愈合在一起。由胃大弯下延的两层腹膜，特别是右半侧常与横结肠愈着，这时称之为胃结肠韧带。大网膜常呈筛状，含有脂肪及吞噬细胞，具有重要的防御功能。小儿的大网膜较短，故当下腹部器官发生炎症尤其是穿孔时，易形成弥漫性腹膜炎。
