这个湖泊的形成很特别，瓦特纳冰原在此有个缺口，因而形成布莱特美克冰河，冰河底端形成深约100公尺的湖泊，冰河上的巨冰不断地崩塌，而且漂浮在湖上，而浮冰经过风、雨、潮流的影响，形成大自然冰雕。
搭船游杰古沙龙湖是最美的体验，水、陆两用船就够新鲜了——外观是船形却又有四个大轮子。乘客在陆地上船，船从陆地上使用轮子直接驶进湖里。
湖里到处是巨大浮冰，为了让观光船在浮冰间通行无阻，有三四艘小快艇当前导船，用木棍把浮冰推开形成航道，旅客就在浮冰间尽享美景。
