系列加工(serial proeessing)在某一时刻，人对各条信息逐一地进行加工的形式。是现代认知心理学从通讯工程和信息论中借用的概念。1%3年斯顿伯格(Stemberg，5.)提出了短时记忆系统是按系列加工的方式进行的观点。他的实验证实了他的假说。他给被试短时间内呈现一系列项目，然后给他们呈现一个项目，要他们判断这个项目是否显示过。结果表明被试的反应时间随着原来呈现的项目的增加而增加。说明被试在短时记忆提取时是逐个检查的，项目越多，检索的时间越长。 (赵宏宇撰成立夫审)
