Л.С.维戈茨基著。1960年俄罗斯联邦教育科学院出版社出版。全书包括3个部分:①高级心理功能发展史;②心理学讲义；③动物和人的行为。维戈茨基长期研究高级心理功能问题。他认为，在传统的心理学中，不是研究高级心理功能及其全部特殊性，而是把它们分解成单个的成分，归结为较简单的过程，这样，高级心理功能作为一种完整的东西，作为一定的结构也就不复存在了。在本书中，他阐述了他关于高级心理功能的文化历史发展理论的一些基本观点,包括：①历史原则,人的高级心理功能受人类文化历史因素的制约，必须以发展的、历史的观点进行研究；②工具理论，人有两种工具，除物质工具外，还有精神工具（符号，词，语言等），由于有后者，就使人的心理上升到高级的阶段；③中介结构，低级心理功能在结构上是直接的，高级心理功能在结构上多了一个中介环节，具有间接性质；④高级心理功能具有一系列不同于低级心理功能的特点，如随意性、概括性和抽象性，间接结构，社会文化历史起源，产生于交往，等等。维戈茨基的高级心理功能发展理论是要根据对人的心理的历史观点来重新构建心理学。
