| 昌吉回族自治州 位于中国新疆维吾尔自治区北部。面积7.76万平方千米，1990年人口127.69万。民族有回、汉、哈萨克、维吾尔、蒙古、乌孜别克等31个。1954年成立昌吉回族自治区，1955年改自治区为自治州。辖昌吉市、阜康市、木垒哈萨克自治县、米泉县、奇台县、玛纳斯县、吉木萨尔县、呼图壁县8县市。州人民政府驻昌吉市。地势南高北低，南部是天山山地，中部是冲积平原，北部为古尔班通古特沙漠。气候干旱少雨，温差大、日照强，属温带大陆性干旱气候。这种气候有利于灌溉农业发展，各县的冲积平原区成为重要的农业区，有些县是自治区的商品粮基地。畜牧业也得到发展。工业有石油化工和毛纺、棉纺工业，还有煤炭、水泥、电力、化工、机械等工业，是自治区新兴的综合工业区。由于资源（石油、煤炭等）丰富、交通便利、距乌鲁木齐较近，是一个具有经济活力的地区。 |
