国家警察人质营救小组（geo） 12名身着黑色作战服的武装人员悄然无声地从一幢5层公寓大楼正面滑落至人行道上。他们做起动作来轻车熟路。这些手持德霰弹枪和mp-5型冲锋枪的特种作战人员整理装备后，一言不发，穿过一条小巷朝目标的后门迅速逼近，几个手势之后就迅速包围了入口。 爆破队员将绑有塑胶炸药雷管的木框放在门前。“轰”的一声，木门被炸成无数碎片。队员们高喊着“警察”闯进屋内，并向任何可能有敌意的目标开火。整个过程仅花了40秒。 别紧张，对于西班牙特种行动队（geo）国家警察人质营救小组，展示这种高难度营救人质的技巧与能力只不过是他们平日演练的例行科目，简直太平常不过了。行动小组的指挥官马上评估了这次演练。“让我们再来一次。”指挥官命令道，“这次需要我们再快一些！” geo成立于西班牙实行民主政体的20世纪70年代。瓜达拉哈拉附近的卡斯蒂利安平原设有geo的大规模训练中心。在那里，队员们针对任何可能出现的情况进行训练。他们演练各种强行进入建筑的技巧，从建筑物顶部快速攀绳而下或是破窗而入。特别行动小组的军官们常自豪地说：西班牙没有一处建筑物是他们不能进入的。 小组队员们定期在全国各大机场训练如何从被劫持的西班牙航班上营救人质或是在铁路站点训练从火车上救人，他们还定期演练突袭被劫持的公共汽车以及往返于北非与西班牙的渡轮。事实上geo的所有训练都是实弹演练，这是为了让队员们体验枪械的危险，掌握其习性。 geo至今已参加了数百次反恐怖作战行动。然而随着形势的发展， geo的任务已不全是对付恐怖组织。近年来，他们还与许多犯罪集团的亡命徒们进行战斗。 在西班牙，甚至整个欧洲都有许多批评家对使用反恐怖部队打击一般犯罪行为持反对态度。他们认为普通的刑事犯罪有警察就足够了。但是geo队员有他们自己的看法。“从战术上说，参加打击犯罪行动是我们所能想像的最好的训练。”一名geo队员说，“危险是有的，但却能锻炼真实的反应能力。这样，一旦有恐怖事件发生，这些经验就会派上用场。”
