美国陆军今年开始装备一种新型狙击步枪,也就是m107式12.7毫米远程狙击步枪。首先列装的部队包括驻阿富汗和伊拉克的部队。美陆军预计m107列装计划要到2008年才能完成。
2003年9月,美国巴雷特轻武器制造公司赢得了m107项目生产合同,由位于新泽西州匹卡汀尼兵工厂负责生产。m107是在美海军陆战队使用的m82a3式狙击步枪的基础上发展的。它能够在1.5~2公里射程内精确打击有生力量,可用于远距离有效攻击和摧毁停放的飞机、
雷达站、弹药库、轻型装甲车和通信设备等。m107通过了严格的试验和评估。它具有可靠性高和适于操作使用的特点。与m24式7.62毫米狙击步枪相比,m107式狙击步枪配有更大倍率的光学瞄准具,且能够发射多种12.7毫米弹药。m107将要改进的内容主要是加装可显著减小枪口喷焰、噪音和枪口冲击波特征的消焰器。
