With examples from teaching Chinese as a Second Language (CSL), the present paper proposes the possibility of a Pragmatic Framework in language use and discusses issues related to the implementation of such a framework in teaching CSL, including the functions of such a framework and how it can help learners in reaching their ultimate goal:to use language appropriately in real life communication.
