理学院的前身是成立于1958年的基础课教学部，1998年更名为基础科学系，2002年成立理学院。学院设应用数学、应用物理、工程力学三个系，以及物理、力学两个实验中心。下设“应用力学研究所”、“应用数学研究所”、“运筹与控制研究所”和“凝聚态物理研究所”等四个研究所。拥有信息与计算科学、应用物理、理论与应用力学三个本科专业和应用数学、运筹学与控制论、基础数学、凝聚态物理、物理电子学、工程力学、固体力学等七个硕士学位点。共有全日制本科生713名，硕士研究生63名。 学院现有教职工112人，其中博士研究生导师1人，硕士研究生导师20人，教授13人，副教授、高工29人。9人具有博士学位，38人具有硕士学位。近年来，学院教师有1人获得“全国先进工作者”；1人获得省级“园丁奖”；2人获得“教育部高校青年教师奖”；4人获得“省高校青年教师成才奖”；1人获得学校“教学名师”；9人获得校级“教学优秀奖”。 作为理科学院，我院重视基础课教学。教学基地建设和教学改革研究已取得了长足发展，形成厚基础、宽口径、强能力的课程体系和实验体系。“高等数学”、“工程力学”课程被评为省精品课程。学院承担面向全校本科生、研究生的数学、力学、物理学基础课程教学和本院学生的专业课教学任务。科研工作以基础理论和应用研究为主。近年来获得省级教学成果奖2项；厅级教学成果奖1项；获省高校科技进步奖4项。由我院教师指导的学生在历年大学生数学模型竞赛中获得了优异成绩，先后共有7个队获得国家级奖项。近3年来，科学研究工作得到了快速发展。学院获得国家自然科学基金资助项目2项；省部级科技项目15项，学校学术梯队及特色研究方向基金项目2项；校优秀青年教师基金11项；国家重点实验室开放基金3项。公开发表学术论文401篇。其中在核心期刊发表239篇，有55篇论文被sci、ei及istp等著名国际检索系统收录。论文发表刊物涉及<journal of mathematical analysis>、<journal of sound and vibration>、<applied mathematics letters>、<journal of thermal stresses>、<european physics>等10多种国际著名刊物以及《数学学报》、《数学物理学报》、《物理学报》、《固体力学学报》、《工程力学》、《振动工程学报》、《应用数学和力学》等20余种国内核心期刊。目前，已经形成泛函微分方程及应用、半群理论、差分方程、结构非线性分析、新型材料结构力学、非线性微分方程数值解、新型碳材料的性质及应用、运筹与控制、结构热弹性稳定性等10余个相对稳定的研究方向。
