1848年法国爆发的资产阶级民主革命。1848年2月，巴黎人民起义推翻七月王朝，资产阶级夺取政权，建立临时政府，成立法兰西第二共和国(史称“法国二月革命”)。6月，巴黎工人阶级为抗议政府的反动政策，举行起义，但被镇压，革命转入低潮(详见“六月起义”)。同年12月，路易·波拿巴当选共和国总统。1851年12月，他发动政变，独揽大权，次年称帝，号为“拿破仑三世”，法兰西第二共和国被法兰西第二帝国取代。
