  大众文化(popula:eulture)亦称“通俗文化”,指那些以广大群众或市民为对象的大众传播内容、各色各样的消费品,以及五花八门的娱乐活动。它与所谓的“高级文化”相对应,其传播对象不是少数受过或具有高等教养的人,内容也不是对某些文化或艺术精品、珍品的享用。大众文化的特点是通俗、浅显、简单、明快,因而可以为绝大多数社会成员所喜闻乐见,使之容易传播蔓延开来。大众传播媒介则是大众文化形成和流行的关键因素。在资本主义国家,由于大众传播媒介的商业化、文化产品的商品化和资本家对利润拼命追求,便导致了大众文化产品的粗制滥造、千篇一律和一味迎合低级趣味,这样便使通俗化的大众文化出现了向堕落的庸俗化趋势蜕变。这种蜕变已引起了社会各界的普遍不安。 (孙俊山撰张交审)
