But as the times goes on,such saint images as Madame Xiang,two imperial concubines of Emperor Shun,and some myths and fables such as concubine of Emperor Shun sad over the spotted bamboo,Yunhe dropped gods and Fuxi made the Chinese zither,Xiangjun losed wears,were added into the legend,and thereupon the legend gradually became rich and complicated.
但后来由于糅混了湘夫人、舜二妃等神灵形象,又杂入了舜妃泪染斑竹、云和降神、伏羲作瑟、湘君遗佩等神话与传说,于是逐渐丰赡和繁富起来;湘灵作为女神的完美造型至唐代亦基本完成。

二妃墓：相传四千多年前，舜帝南巡，两个受妃娥皇、女英随之赶来，船被大风阻于君山，二妃突然听到舜帝已死于苍梧，悲痛欲绝，望着茫茫的湖水，攀竹痛哭泪水洒遍了山上的竹林，遂成斑竹，不久，二妃忧郁成疾，死于洞庭湖，葬于山之东麓，为纪念二妃而改洞庭山为君山，现是1979年岳阳市政府按(清)彭玉麟重修的墓样维修的。墓为石砌，前立石柱，上雕麒麟 、雄狮、大象、中坚、“虞帝二纪之墓”墓碑。墓前10米处有一对石引柱，上有一副楷书石刻对联：“君妃二魄芳千古，山竹诸斑泪一人”。
