业报轮回主体在印度佛教发展中经历了由"业"的承受者转移到"补特伽罗",由"胜义补特伽罗"转移到"阿赖耶识"的发展路径;业报轮回主体理论在中国佛教的引入与发展是由慧远完成的,创立了业报轮回主体的"灵者"说,后来被昙鸾、道绰和善导运用于"往生"这一净土理论特质,对"灵者"作了往生西方极乐世界、获得"阿毗跋致"的安置,从而丰富和发展了中国佛教中的业报轮回思想;本文从业报轮回主体理论在印度佛教与中国佛教的不同发展,进而指出中印佛教在神灵观、轮回主体产生与发展路径等方面的不同。
