| 《琵琶记》 中国宋元南戏作品 。高明改编写定。这出戏是根据长期在民间流传的《赵贞女蔡二郎》的故事改编的。演的是书生蔡伯喈新婚后赴京应试，得中状元，被牛丞相招赘，重婚牛氏。蔡的原配赵五娘，在家侍奉公婆，不想连年荒旱，公婆相继饿死，她只好身背琵琶，沿途乞讨，进京寻夫。在原故事中，蔡伯喈忘恩负义，被暴雷殛死，具有强烈的现实社会意义。但改编后的《琵琶记》则与之不同，写赵五娘进京后，幸赖牛氏贤惠，使她与蔡伯喈重聚，一夫二妇归家庐墓三年，全剧以一门旌表作结。这不仅削弱了原作的现实意义，而且反映出一夫多妻、“妻贤夫祸少”的庸俗倾向。然而《琵琶记》并没有因改编者的失误，淹没了它动人的艺术魅力。《琵琶记》的感人力量是与赵五娘的形象塑造密不可分的。她的刚毅、正直，勇于承担苦难，不惜牺牲自我，在很大程度上概括了古代社会众多妇女的美好品质。她的生活遭际震撼人心。尤其是《琵琶记》的曲文生动，善于刻画人物的内心世界，委婉细致，如《吃糠》一出，情景相生，直抒胸臆，感人至深。《琵琶记》在中国戏曲史上长期被视为上乘佳作，并流传国外，被译成法、英、德、日等诸种文字。
