高语境与低语境的概念由美国人类学家霍尔(1976)首次提出，此后，越来越多的文化学家们意识到这一概念在深入认识跨文化差异上的重要性。

The communication with the main reliance on context is called high-context communication, while the communication relying mostly on language is called low-context communication.
美国人类学家霍尔在他1976年出版的《超越文化》一书中提出,从语境角度,交流可以分为两种,即高语境交流和低语境交流。

In this present study, based on the cultural theories of Hofstede’s individualism/collectivism and Hall’s high/low-context, the theories of management communication, and the previous studies, the author explores a new model to compare the management communication style between Chinese and American managers, through a series of questionnaire investigation.
正是在这样的大背景下,本文就深层文化的核心部分以前人的理论研究为框架和背景,将Hofstede的个人/集体主义以及Hall的高/低语境两大文化理论框架与管理沟通理论相结合,建立新的维度模型,并依此设计调查问卷,围绕中美两种截然不同的文化变量,对在华中美管理人员的沟通风格进行对比研究。
