清代杨氏太极拳奠基人。字露禅（1799-1872），“禅”亦写作“蝉”，别号禄缠，永年（今属河北）人。幼贫。至温县谋生，从陈长兴学拳，数载无所得。某夜闻隔院有声，越垣窥之，见其师正教陈家诸徒拿发诸术，自事每业必往窥，悉心研究，功乃大进。一次与陈家诸徒较量，皆败之。师惊其才，遂尽授秘术。数年后，以能避制强硬之力见长，“柔中寓刚，绵李藏针”，人称“沾绵拳”、“软拳”、“化拳”。后至京师，任旗营武术教习，名望极高，有“杨无敌”之称。尝与董海川较，功力相当。所遗拳路经其孙杨兆清修改定型为杨氏太极拳。子杨鉴、杨钰，亦为太极拳名家。
