第一次世界大战停战纪念日：11月11日，为纪念1918年签订第一次世界大战停战协议，原先在美国庆祝的停战纪念日。1954年后，与“退伍军人节”合在一起纪念。
自上星期，英国不少人都在胸前带一朵红罂粟花，作为armistice day的标志。为什么是罂粟花？因为它生命力顽强。种子埋在地下几年，仍有生命力。只要一翻动泥土，它又长出来了。第一次世界大战结束后，拿破仑给欧洲大陆带来的彻底性破坏却把贫瘠的土壤变成了一片一片血红色的罂粟地。
