Compared with verse studies of his contemporaries, Hu Huaishen’s study of modern verse is more systematic and more comprehensive, for his views on the reciprocal change between modern minor verse and traditional Chinese verse as well as their respective origin has exerted an extensive impact in the old and new literary camps and has thus led to much controversy.
