公平镇位于成都平原腹地的温江区境东部，海拔高度525～540米。镇境东西长约10公里，南北宽约4公里，东接成都市郊青羊区文家乡、西靠区城柳城镇、南隔江安河与涌泉乡相望，北与万春镇和永宁乡为邻。幅员面积21.5平方公里，镇政府驻地公平场，离成都市中区13公里，距区城2公里。
公平镇历史悠久，镇内有建于宋、毁于明、复于清的大乘院（原名新庙子）。院内殿宇生辉、花木掩映，善男信女络绎不绝，一九八六年经县府确定为区内佛都活动点，镇内还有明代合都御使梁祖龄所建的鸡鸣桥，清代奋威将军川陕总督岳钟琪别墅，清代四川路总爵际将军龙观翼点将台遗址等名胜古迹。公平场原为雍家渡口，清代中期，河两岸都有经商摊点，需要摆渡过河来往交易，由于摆渡者收费公平合理而得名。建国以来，公平镇行政区划虽有三次变化，但都基本保留了"公平"二字。一九九二年十月撤乡建镇。
镇内地势平坦，气候温和，雨量充沛，年无霜期长达280多天，属岷江水系都江堰灌区。江安河沿镇西，南面婉延而起到排涝作用。 全镇粮食作物以小麦、水稻为主，经济作物主要有大蒜、油菜、蔬菜等。
