徐霞客是我国著名的地理学家和旅行家。他不畏艰险，游历祖国的名山大川，进行地理考察。在南方和西南考察时他五次断绝了粮食，三次遇到了强盗。这些并没有吓倒徐霞客，他的足迹边际大半个中国。他把自己的观察所得写进了日记，后人根据这些日记，整理出富有地理学和文学价值的《徐霞客游记》
