| 蝉科 Cicadidae；cicada 同翅目的一科。雄虫发音响亮。通称蝉，俗名知了。全世界已知约3000种，中国约100余种。体粗壮中大型，头部有3个单眼，呈三角形排列；触角短小，鬃状；前胸短阔，领状；中胸背板特别发达，后方呈X形隆起；翅膜质，脉纹粗；前足开掘式；雄虫腹部第1节两侧有发音器。不完全变态；卵产在植物组织内；孵化后若虫钻入土中生活，为害植物根部。若虫蜕皮可入中药称蝉蜕。成虫生活在植物上，刺吸汁液，为害嫩枝。中国北方常见种类有蚱蝉、蛁蟟、蟪蛄等，南方常见种类有红蝉（红娘子）等。
