溶组织阿米巴包囊经口感染宿主后，在小肠下段碱性消化液的作用下，囊壁变薄，分裂形成四个小滋养体。小滋养体生活在肠腔中，以肠道细菌和肠内容物为营养，不吞噬红细胞，体积小，直径12～30μm，内外质分界不明。小滋养体可凭借伪足的机械运动和酶的水解作用侵入肠壁组织，大量增殖，吞噬红细胞和组织细胞转变为大滋养体。大滋养体直径在20～60μm之间，多数为20～30μm，内外质分明，外质透明，内质浓密，常伸出单一伪足，作定向移动即阿米巴运动。苏木素染色后，可见直径为4～7μm的泡状细胞核，核的正中或略偏位有小而圆的核仁，核仁与核膜间有时可见网状纤维。
