描述GomphocarpusR.Br.钉头果属，萝藦科，约50种，产热带非洲，其中钉头果G.fruticosus（L.）R.Br.1种，我国有栽培。灌木或半灌木；叶对生或轮生，具柄；聚伞花序生于枝顶的叶腋，有花多朵；花萼裂片内面基部有腺体；花冠辐状或反折，裂片镊合状排列；副花冠兜状或舟状或凹形；花药顶端有薄膜片；花粉块每室1个，下垂；雌蕊由2个离生心皮组成；柱头顶端五角形，肉质；蓇葖肥大，外果皮有软刺；种子顶端有白色绢质种毛。
