描述RoscoeaSmith象牙参属，姜科，15种，分布于印度、尼泊尔、锡金和克什米尔地区；我国有高山象牙参R.alpinaRoyle等12种，全产西南部。花极美丽，可栽培供观赏。多年生草本，有粗厚、肉质的根；叶2列；花紫色、蓝色或白色，无苞片，数朵排成顶生的穗状花序或头状花序；萼管状，一侧开裂；花冠管长而纤细，上裂片阔，直立，风帽状，侧面的较狭，广展；唇瓣大，楔形，下弯，侧生退化雄蕊倒披针形，花瓣状；花药基部有距；子房3室，有胚珠极多数；蒴果圆柱状或棒状，膜质，迟裂或微裂成3爿。
