The dunes on the western shore of the Qinghai Lake are a newly evolving area of aeolian sand in recent ten years and are expanding the limits yearly, and the area is the second big depositional area of aeolian sand in the Qinghai Lake region.

Through analysing the effects of climatic changes on grassland ecological environment of the basin around Qinghai Lake in the past 40 years,it was found that climatic changes around Qinghai Lake basin were characterized by the rising of mean annual temperature,significant increasing of mean annual evaporation and slight increasing of annual precipitation varying more greatly between years.
通过分析近20年来环青海湖盆地的气候变化特征对环湖盆地草地生态环境的影响,发现环青海湖地区年平均温度升高、年蒸发量增大程度比较显著,而降水量增多不显著,且年际间变化较大,气温、地表蒸发等气象要素有向暖干化过渡的趋势。

青海青海湖国家级自然保护区
位于青海省刚察、海晏、共和3县境内，面积495200公顷，1975年经青海省人民政府批准建立，1997年晋升为国家级，主要保护对象为高原湿地生态系统和珍稀鸟类。
本区地处青藏高原东北部，以青海湖为主体，湖周依次为湖滨平原、沼泽草甸、山地草甸、半荒漠干草滩和荒漠化沙丘带景观。湖区及环湖地区共有鸟兽200种，其中兽类6目、15科36种；鸟类15目35科164种，繁殖鸟占鸟类总数的69.5％，达114种之多；主要保护的4种水禽斑头雁、棕头鸥、鸬鹚总体数量达40余万只；大天鹅数量也达1000多只，是我国高原内陆地区水禽候鸟栖息、繁衍和越冬的重要区域之一，也是候鸟迁徙的驿站。本区列为国家重点保护的野生动物主要有黑颈鹤、普氏原羚、大天鹅等。青海湖保护区丰富多样的湿地生态系统类型和生物资源，使其被列入国际重要湿地名录，在今后的生物多样性保护中，将会发按越来越重要的作用。
