雄成虫体长13-21毫米,雌25-32毫米;雄前翅长7.8-12毫米，雌者14-20毫米。身体褐色至暗褐色。前翅短，仅达或几达后足股节的顶端、翅上有许多黑色小点;后翅黄褐色。头大，却短于前胸背板;触角短，仅为前胸背板的长度或稍超过;前胸背板有明显的中纵隆线及侧隆绞，其间3条纵沟明显，仗后横沟割断中隆线。雄性腹部末节背板的后缘无尾片;雌性产卵瓣短粗，顶端钩形，外缘无细齿。
年发生1-2代,以卵在上中过冬。此虫为杂食性，馋食豆类及禾本科植物。
