描述AllemandaL.黄蝉属，夹竹桃科，约15种，分布于热带美洲，我国引入栽培的有黄蝉A.neriifoliaHook.和软枝黄蝉A.catharticaL.2种，广州极常见，供观赏。直立或藤状灌木；叶生或轮生；花大而美丽，黄色，数朵排成总状花序，萼5深裂，基部里面无腺体；花冠钟状或漏斗状，喉部有被毛的鳞片；花药与花柱分离；花盘环状，全缘或5裂；子房1室，具两个侧膜胎座，有胚珠多颗；果为一有刺的蒴果，开裂为2果瓣；种子有翅。
