基线点是采用精密的测量距离的仪器、技术和方法，直接测量一段或若干段直线的长度，做为起算数据或检校标准，这样的线称为基线。基线的端点通常设置永久性测量标志表示其点位，这样的点称为基线点。如，长度基线检定场是用于检校电磁波、激光测距仪的野外场所。测距仪等仪器在经过一定时间的使用后，其内部零件将老化、衰变，并严重影响测距的精度，通过基线检定与真实长度的比对，来查找改正数并发现仪器的问题，以保证测量的精度。
