地质构造运动是指主要由地球内部能量引起的地壳或岩石圈物质的机械运动。
它使岩石发生变形的主要类型是褶皱和断裂,使岩石发生变位的方式有水平运动和升降运动。
构造运动的形式主要有水平和升降运动,也即传统的造山运动和造陆运动。
现代构造运动既有缓慢进行的,也有剧烈进行的;既有水平运动,也有升降运动;
古代构造运动的推断:主要是通过沉积场所的特征、构造变形和地层接触关系等地质遗迹来进行。
构造运动的起源主要有地球收缩说、膨胀说、脉动说等等。现在一般认为是由于地幔对流引起的岩石圈板块运动所导致。研究构造运动具有重要意义。
