硅质岩
siliceous rock

   一种以二氧化硅为主要成分的岩石。通常由化学作用、生物作用、生物化学作用和某些火山作用形成(但不包括主要由机械作用形成的石英砂岩)。硅质岩的主要矿物成分是蛋白石、玉髓和少量自生石英,常混入粘土、碳酸盐等杂质。矿物多呈隐晶质或非晶质、具层状、薄层状、透镜状或结核状结构构造。按成因可分为2种主要类型:①生物或生物化学硅质岩,如硅藻土、放射虫岩、海绵岩、蛋白土等。②非生物成因硅质岩,如碧玉岩、燧石岩、硅华等。硅质岩可用作磨料、填料、漂白原料和绝缘材料等。
