成虫翅展85-90毫米。体形粗大，属大型蛾类。由于体形大而且色彩鲜艳，有人曾誉为"凤凰蛾"。身体黄色，前后翅斑纹相同。成虫常在夜间活动，多以卵越冬。老熟幼虫可以吐丝作茧。成虫一般于7月间出现，一年发生一代。

分布：福建、湖南、广西、云南。
