新四军在皖中铁铺岭对日军的伏击战。1938年9月，新四军第4支队第7团第3营从安徽省怀宁县东北的洪家铺出发，进至安庆西北的铁铺岭一带活动，破坏安庆至桐城公路上日军的运输。13日中午11时许，从安庆方向开来日军汽车3辆。设伏之新四军以手榴弹将第1辆打翻在水沟内。车内日军挣扎着爬出水沟。此时第2辆汽车驶至，日军蜂拥下车，与从水沟内爬出之日军会合，共约20余人，退至老陈屋顽抗。第3辆车亦开至，遭到新四军攻击，向后开动逃跑。设伏之新四军迅速迂回至老陈屋背后，将日军完全消灭。整个伏击战历时半小时，击毙日军分队长1名、士兵28名，缴获长枪28支、手枪1支、日本旗1面、军用品一批。新四军亡士兵4人，伤1人。
